The night went dark. I was taken to back country time. No phone, no tv, no computer. Sun set and I was left in darkness. Along with the rest of San Diego I was puzzled with what to do with my time. The result was a night full resting, reading about hikes, writing, and catching up on much needed sleep. All by candle light.

How restful and fun this unexpected "catastrophe" was. It has been the topic of conversation among co-workers and participants with whom I work. What a pleasant treat to have in common with everyone!

I heard about people gathering together by candlelight, lanterns, and bbqs- merely to spend time in darkness and talk to each other because there was nothing else to do.

Refreshing. Community. Those are the words that come to mind when I reflect on the evening. Let's do that more often. Not let it only be a hiccup in our lives forced onto us by a blackout.
