To travel...

You know that it´s a pretty incredible place when you have to take three buses and a boat to get to your destination. We embarked last Friday to start our travels for Semana Santa, first stop Tortuguero. Woke up early as usually to catch a bus to the San Jose Caribbean bus terminal. Hopped on that bus to Cariari where we caught another bus at la pavona. These buses mind you were jammed packed with people and it is pretty hot and humid outside so inside the bus was even more so. Only here though, does a bus driver, after witnessing a van screech into a ditch, stop to help pull it out. He jumped out, nobody was hurt, no need to call AAA, nope all you need to do is tie a rope to the back of the bus and the bumper of the van and problem solved. This event made the trip a little more pleasant. We finally got to the boat, got in and spent about two hours on the river, we started seeing all kinds of lizards, birds, and beautiful greenery all around. The town of Tortugero is right on the Caribbean coast but it is an island where turtles come and lay their eggs. Unfortunately it was too early for us to see them but there was still alligators, nutrias(otters), toucans, howler and spider monkeys, bats, cool looking trees(we took a tour in a canoe at 5:30 in the morning so it was pretty cool. The beach was beautiful, with black sand.

After Tortuguero we went to Puerto Viejo(reggae filled hippy town on the beach) and last minute decided to travel to the other coast to visit Samara, yet another beach town(more family feel than puerto viejo) From snorkeling to rafting on the Pacuare rivera to chilling at the beach it has been a packed break, wish to share it with you all:) I´ll be back with some pictures eventually.

  1. Like no other spring break you've ever had! I'm headed over to Petaluma tomorrow- I don't think I'll run into any spider monkeys there.
    love ya.

  2. Lots of howling here in Petaluma, but no howlers. We're having a riotous great time. Gma Billie wanted to take us to "someplace expensive" for dinner last night. We were of course happy to oblige. Jim, Nathan and I went in for "real meat" the ladies had more petite fare. Love you, Lys. Miss having you here. Thanks for the updates. Off to Easter Service with DuVardos.--Dad
